Probatem was founded by Jennifer Evans, a native of Virginia, to offer modern solutions to the estate administration process.
As an estate professional with over 20 years of probate / estate settlement experience and helping thousands of families, Jennifer understands the pain points, what it takes to settle a Virginia estate, and also recognizes the need for a better way. Probatem is here to help you through every step.
Our founder, Jennifer Evans, has devoted her entire career to probate, spending much of that time working in law firms and operating her own probate company. She is well acquainted with the after-death legal process and all the pitfalls, struggles, and pain points that come with it. With her expertise, heart for families, and vision to provide a better way – Probatem was born. Probatem provides personalized guidance after death with sensitivity toward the needs of families.
Jennifer Evans
Founder & CEO
Jennifer Evans is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Probatem. She is a highly experienced probate professional with more than 20 years of experience helping families navigate the probate and estate administration process throughout Virginia. Over the course of her career, she has assisted with thousands of probate estates while maintaining a flawless record of 100% estate approvals.
Jennifer’s extensive background includes working in law firms as a lead estate and trust paralegal, where she collaborated closely with attorneys, probate clerks, commissioners, fiduciaries, heirs, beneficiaries, and tax professionals to manage estates from start to finish. She also led the probate department at an estate settlement company, supported a commissioner’s office as a temporary auditor, and has personally served as a fiduciary (executor/administrator) for estates when families were unable to do so themselves.
These experiences have given Jennifer a rare and well-rounded understanding of the probate process, allowing her to understand not only the legal and procedural complexities involved, but also the deeply personal and emotional challenges families face after the loss of a loved one.
Known for her compassionate approach and commitment to helping others, Jennifer has conducted probate education workshops alongside attorneys and commissioners to help families better understand the process during difficult times. Through years of working directly with courts, funeral homes, legal professionals, executors, and families, she recognized the need for a more modern, accessible, cost effective, and supportive approach to probate guidance.
Jennifer founded Probatem in 2021 with a simple mission: to make probate easier to understand, easier to navigate, and less overwhelming for the families and professionals who depend on it.
Jonathan Bernard
Co-Founder & CTO
Jonathan Bernard is the Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer of Probatem. With more than 20 years of experience in software development, Jonathan has built innovative and dependable technology solutions across a wide range of industries and platforms.
His technical expertise spans cybersecurity, embedded systems programming, consumer applications, and modern full-stack web development. Throughout his career, Jonathan has worked with government agencies, startups, family-owned businesses, enterprise organizations, and consulting firms. These experiences have help shape his thoughtful and practical approach to software design.
Jonathan joined Probatem full time in 2025, bringing his deep technical knowledge and passion for creating meaningful technology solutions to the probate industry. He played a central role in developing Probatem’s comprehensive software platform, designed to simplify the probate process and provide families and professionals with a more supportive, streamlined, and user-friendly experience. He leads the company’s technology vision and development, ensuring the platform remains modern, intuitive, secure, and responsive to the evolving needs of its users.
